Unit 3 computers Speaking, listening & writing The General Idea of This Period: This period includes speaking, listening and writing of unit 3. It asks students to compare artificial intelligence and human intelligence. In addition, students think about the advantages and disadvantages of computer or internet. They express their opinions during the discussion period and conclude the correct ways people (students) correctly use computer. Then write down a composition to improve writing ability.

Teaching aims: 1.

Train students’ thinking, speaking, listening and writing ability.

Learn useful writing structures, using words and phrases in this Unit. 3.

Have a clear view of “how to use computer or internet properly?”

Teaching important points: 1.

Help students to express their ideas clearly. 2.

Try to understand each other’s opinions.

Have a rough view of debate.

Introduce the topic of computers a)

Show two pictures: xiao du and Wangfeng.

What is the story between them? Who wins at last? Thinking: Is that mean: artificial intelligence is more powerful than human intelligence? Students have two different views. b)

Play a short video Question: Do you think one day our planet will be captured by machines? Discuss in groups.

(purpose: let students have a brainstorming and think about questions to have different opinions.

Each student has a chance to think and speak in English.) 4.

Debate In our daily life, computer, as a tool, has been a necessity in most families and all business. Thinking: Computers have brought us more benefits or more disadvantages? (purpose: Introduce some fundamental knowledge of debate, such as supportive point and negative point. Students have various views. They also must speak out. Thus, improve thinking and speaking ability.) 5.

Writing According to the requirement, students write down a composition about the advantages and disadvantages of computer. Ask one group to write down the composition on the blackboard , and other groups speak out their compositions to all. Correct mistakes by students themselves and teacher gives some guidance.\ (purpose: students practice writing using proper structures. Through correcting period, students can know the common mistakes and improve writing level.) 6.

Polish your composition and hand in after class. b)

Known how to use computer and internet properly. (purpose: Further strengthen the knowledge of writing. Use the acquired knowledge into daily life.) 7.
