一. v.-ing作定语

1．表示名词的属性、作用或用途。作“供……用”讲，相当于一个介词for短语。

There is a swimming pool in our school．（a pool for swimming) Students are not allowed to speak aloud in the reading room．(a room for reading) 2．表示所修饰的名词的动作或状态，被修饰的词与v. -ing之间有一种逻辑上的主谓关系，相当于一个定语从句。

The boy studying in the classroom is our monitor．

在教室里学习的那个男孩是我们的班长。

We’ll have an exam in the coming week．下周我们将进行一次考试。

总结：当v. -ing单独作定语时，放在_______________；如果是v.-ing短语作定语，则放在________________。

3．现在分词(短语)、动名词(短语)、过去分词(短语)和动词不定式(短语)作定语的区别：

(1)现在分词(短语)作定语，表示该动作的主动和进行。

The man making a call is our headmaster．

=The man who ____________________ is our headmaster.

正在打电话的那个人是我们的校长。

(2)动名词(短语)作定语，通常表示它所修饰的名词的________，并不存在逻辑上的主谓关系。

Measure the screen with a measuring tape．用卷尺测量一下屏幕。

(3)过去分词(短语)作定语，表示该动作的__________或完成。

I ignored the changed situation．我忽视了已经变化的形势。

(4)动词不定式(短语)作定语表示将来的动作。

4．过去分词与现在分词的被动语态及动词不定式的被动语态作定语的区别：

(1)过去分词作定语，表示分词的动作_____________。

二、v. –ing 作表语

1．表示抽象的一般性的行为，用来说明主语的内容，与主语通常是同一概念，表语

和主语常可互换位置。

His hobby is collecting wine bottles．=Collecting wine bottles is his hobby．

收藏酒瓶是他的爱好。

2．表示主语的某种性质和特征，这时通常可以看作是形容词。

The report is very encouraging．这个报告非常鼓舞人心。

3．动名词作表语与动词不定式作表语的区别

动名词作表语表示抽象的、一般性的动作；动词不定式作表语表示一次具体的动

作或将要发生的事。

His hobby is painting．他的爱好是画画。(一般性的动作)

Today what he wants to do is to paint．今天他想要做的事是画画。(具体的动作)

His wish is to become an artist．他的愿望是成为一名艺术家。(将要发生的事) 三、v. –ing 作宾语补足语

v. -ing形式作宾语补足语时，它与宾语构成逻辑上的主谓关系，即宾语是其逻辑上的主语。它主要用于以下两类动词后作宾语补足语：

1．表示感觉和心理状态的动词(短语)，如：see，hear，feel，smell，watch，catch(碰巧, 发现)，find，listen to，look at，notice，observe等。

The guard caught a stranger sliding into the manager’s office．

警卫无意中发现一个陌生人溜进了经理的办公室。

Daniel was caught cheating in the exam．丹尼尔考试作弊时被发现。

2．使役动词，如：set，keep，have，get，leave，make等。

The joke set her bursting out laughing．那个笑话让她大笑起来。

We shouldn’t keep our lights burning in the day．我们白天不应该开着灯。

3．在有些动词(词组)，如：regard，describe，accept，think of，look on，quote等之

后，可由as引出v. -ing形式作宾补。

They describe the cartoon as being attractive．

他们描述说这个动画片很吸引人。
