I. Analysis of the Teaching Material This passage is an introduction to an endangered animal---the Milu deer. It introduces the basic information, the disappearance and the return of Milu deer, which aims to draw more attention to protecting them and call for more cooperation among countries to protect the Milu Deer as well as the wild animals. The text in the workbook is much easier for the students to read and understand and is suitable for them to have a talk on wildlife protection. II. Analysis of the Students According to the Standards of English Curriculum, the overall development of the students is the most important concerns, among which speaking contributes a lot. Therefore, this lesson focuses on their ability of information processing, group cooperation and speech-making on how to protect the animals. III. Teaching objectives: 1.

Get the students to know something about Milu deer. 2.

Have the students talk about the endangered animals, the reasons for their disappearance and how to protect them. IV. Teaching important points: 1. The condition of the Milu deer. 2.

Talking on the endangered animals. V. Teaching procedures: Step one---warming up Show some pictures of Cemetery of the animals that have died out in the world which was taken in the Milu Deer Park in Beijing. And ask the students to guess what it is.

The animals before the hand have died out and the ones behind the hand are dying out. The hand stands for measures that have been taken by human beings to prevent the disappearing of the endangered animals.

Ask the students to name some animals that are dying out, such as Panda, Elephant, the Northeastern tiger, Antelope, etc.

Discussion: Why are these animals dying out? The environment is badly polluted and they lost their home. They have no enough food. Too much hunting, people hunt them for their meat, fur and skin. Weather change---dinosaur & penguin …

Today, we are going to talk about one of the endangered animals. Purpose: to introduce the topic of wildlife protection and let the students talk on this topic.

Step two---Reading 1.

Fast reading Read the text quickly and find out the basic information of the passage. Pay attention to the word “Return” in the title. Read paragraph two and find out what happened to Milu deer during Ming and Qing dynasty and the reasons for their disappearance.

Happening: Milu deer disappeared Reasons: too many of them were killed Read paragraph three and four to find out what happened to Milu deer recently.

Until recently Happening: the only Milu deer alive in the world belonged to the Duke of

Bedford in England.

Reasons: 1. some Milu deer had been taken to England.

2. They like the cool, wet weather there and their number increased year by year.

At present: Happening: the number of Milu deer in China is increasing. Reasons: there are some Nature Parks for Milu deer in China. Research Centers (Nature Parks) Number: three Places: the Nanhaizi Milu Park in Beijing, Dafeng in Jiangsu province and a new park in Hubei province called Shi Shou.

Purpose: to let the students have a basic understanding of the Milu Deer. 2. Detailed reading---competition Read the passage for details and later we will have a competition. In the Milu Deer Park, there are various kinds of animals. When the Milu Deer came back, they give him a warm welcome. Read the passage by yourself and choose one of the animals, after which there is a question. You can get one point for your group if you answer one question and a person can only chooses one question. Q1. When did Milu deer disappear from China? ---

They disappeared during the Ming and Qing dynasty. Q2. Why did Milu deer disappeared in China? ---Milu deer were often hunted for food or sport in the past and many were killed. Q3. Why do they grow well in London? ---Because they like the cool, wet weather in England and people there didn’t killed them. Q4. How many Milu research centers are there in China? Where are they? ---There are Three. ---They are the Nanhaizi Milu Park in Beijing, Dafeng in Jiangsu province and Shi Shou in Hubei province. Q5. When were the Milu deer taken back to China? ---In 1985. Q6. What do people want to do with Milu deer in the future? ---

It is hoped that the Milu deer can be sent back to the wild again. So we can get the development of Milu Deer: Originally in China --- Taken to Britain ---grew well in Britain--- Disappeared from China --- Returned to China --- Live in the wild.

Step three ---Group work: discussing and speaking

Let’s look at the picture of the cemetery of wildlife again.

The hand stands for human beings and we human beings want to take some measures to stop the animals from dying out. What can we do to protect the wildlife? World Wildlife Day Design a poster with your partners to arouse public awareness of wildlife protection. Choose a speaker(发言人) for your group. Your poster may contain the following information. 1.The slogan （口号）of your group；

Such as “Together to protect tigers and Leopards”

2. What we can do to protect the wildlife. 3. Decoration of your poster with something related to animals

The suggestions may include: 1. Don’t over kill wildlife. 2. Don’t pollute our environment. 3. Don’t over cut forest.

4. Build nature reserves.

5. Collect money for wild life. 6. Cooperate with other countries.

After they finish their posters, ask them to show the posters to the classmates and give suggestions on how to protect animals. Purpose: to let the students give suggestions on how to protect animals and practice speaking. Show another two pictures. If we do much to protect the environment, we can live in harmonious with the animals. If not, we will dig a cemetery for ourselves.

Purpose: to confirm the importance of wildlife protection. Homework
