NSEFC Module 1, Unit 4 Earthquakes Type：Reading (45 minutes) Analysis of the teaching material: This lesson is a reading passage. It introduces the terrible earthquake in Tangshan, Hebei Province in 1976. It plays an important role in English teaching of this unit. By the end of this class, the students can know what happened before, during and after the Tangshan earthquake. Analysis of the students: 1.

As

the Senior Grade 1 students, most of them have mastered some basic reading skills such as prediction, fast reading and careful reading. So they can get the general idea of the passage with the teacher’s help. 2.

It is the second period of this unit, so they have previewed the reading part but haven’t got the idea of what serious damage that Tangshan earthquake caused. Teaching objectives：

1. Students can learn about Tangshan earthquake. 2. Students can develop the reading skills of fast reading and careful reading. 3. To train Students’ ability to grasp key information.

4. Students can generate right attitudes towards life

Teaching procedures：

Step 1 Lead in (2 mins)

Recognize some natural disasters Show students the pictures of different natural disasters and help them to recognize them. Q: Do you know what kind of natural disaster it is?

What else can you think?

(Purpose: Show some pictures to arouse students’ interest and at the same time lead in the topic.)

Step 2 Pre-reading (2 mins) Look at the title of the passage and then guess the passage is talking about which kind of natural disaster. (Purpose: This step is aimed to develop the students’ ability to predict the content of passage according to the title.)

Step 3 Fast reading (6 mins) Read the passage quickly and answer the following questions. 1.

Teaching evaluation: After the lesson, I think I can help students understand the passage clearly. But what I need to improve is that because of time limit, Students may not understand some language points in this passage.
