I. Teaching aims: 1.To learn about the differences between the fact and the opinion. 2.To tell facts from opinions. 3. To master the usage of key phrases and expressions: 4. To train the students’ reading ability:scanning.

V. Teaching procedures:

Step 1. Warming up Speak out some situations and ask Ss the following questions: Are they facts or opinions? Purpose:

To get Ss to know the difference between a fact and an opinion.

Step 2. Task reading Task 1: Read the passage and find out the definition of fact and opinon. A fact is anything that can be proved. An opinion is what someone believe is true but has not been proved. Task 2: What makes a judge decide which eyewitness he can believe and which not?

Whether the eyewitness has given true information, which must be the fact rather than the opinion.

Task 3: Read a man’s story about what happened to the Amber Room quickly and decide whether it is a fact or an opinion. Task 3: Read the story again and fill in the table ( P 5).

Step 3. Listening

Listen to the tape and fill in the forms (P5). 1.

Listen to Part A and write down where the Amber Room was lost. _______ 2.

Listen to Part B and write down how the Amber Room was lost. _______

Step 4. Speaking

Task 1. To learn how to ask for or give opinions and master the usage of key expressions. Task 2. Use the given expressions to work out some dialouges.

Step 5. Writing Read the letter from a German newspaper and try to write a reply letter.

Step 6. Homework

1. Finish writing the letter 2. Read and recite the key phrases and expressions.
