The analysis of teaching material: This period consists of warming up,pre-reading and reading.In the warming up, we can learn more about plants through giving examples of particular plants.In the pre-reading,we can learn some knowledge about plants in the Plant Kingdom.Then guess what the reading passage is about.The title of the reading is Plant Exploration in the 18th and 19th century.In the reading ,we can know the transportation of several kinds of plants and some collectors who made a great contribution to the transportation of the plant. The analysis of learning condition:The students are from grade 3 in senior high school.As high school students from grade 3,they have achieved certain English level and they have the ability to get the basic idea of the reading and the detailed information in the reading passage.Since they are in grade 3,they are easily activated and want to air their own opinions related to the topic of the reading.Because their vocabulary is limited,so they may have difficulties in understanding the complex sentences. Teaching aims: Knowledge objectives:enable students to know about the words,expressions and sentences and to know about the plant exploration in the 18th and 19th century. Ability objectives:enable students to know about the text structure of the passage and to get some reading skills through reading the text. Emotional objectives:get the students to know some information about the plant exploration in the 18th and 19th century and to know some information about the transportation of the plant. Teaching key and difficult points:improve students'reading ability and expand more knowledge about plant exploration in the 18th and 19th century. Teaching Aids:multimedia Teaching and learning methods:Individual work,pair work,group work and class work to make every student work in class. Teaching procedures: The entire steps are:warming up,pre-reading,skimming, scanning,careful reading,summary discussion and homework. Purpose: To train their ability of speaking and reading ability, especially reading ability. Step1Greeting. Greet the whole class as usual.

Step2 Warming up 1.Enjoy the pictures of some plants. 2.T:Do you know these plants? Ss: T:Where are these plants from? Ss: T:How much do you know them? Ss: Purpose:Arouse students’ passion for learning English about the topic. Step3 Pre-reading See the two films and answer the question: What is the film about? Students'activities:Understand the film and predict what is the passage about. Teachers'activities:Help students get their idea about the films related to the passage. Purpose:Introduce the Plant Kingdom and bring the students into the new subject. Step4 Skimming To understand the title(Plant Exploration in the 18th And 19th Centuries) and the reading passage .Then answer:What?When?Who?and Where? Students'activities:Read the title and understand the title according to the What?When?Who?and Where?

Teachers'activities:Help students get more information from the title. Purpose:Understand the title of the passage. Step5 Scanning Read the whole passage and know about the structure of the passage. Students'activities:Read the passage quickly ,know about the structure of the passage and match the main idea with each part. Teachers'activities:Check the answer. Purpose:Understand the structure of the passage. Purpose:Learn about the structure of the passage. Step6 Careful reading Underline the names and the time in the passage .Match each person with the thing related to them.Get detailed information in the passage. Students'activities:Find out the time,the name and the thing in the reading.Then get some

detailed information according to the questions. Teachers'activities:Help students understand the passage and work out the questions. Purpose:Analyze the passage.Train students'reading skills. Step7 Discussion Work in groups. Discuss a situation and act the idea out. Students'activities:Discuss with each in the group and try to express the idea to the whole class. Teachers'activities:Encourage students to speak out the ideas to the whole class. Purpose:Expand their know knowledge about plant exploration and train their speaking ability. Step7 Summary Summarize what we have learned in the class Students'activities:Try to fill in the blanks correctly. Teachers'activities:Help students sum up the passage. Purpose:.Sum up the passage. Step8 Homework 1..Retell the story .

Exploring plants

Plant Exploration in the 18th and 19th century Step8 Teaching reflection Advantages: 1.I divided the whole teaching procedures into eight steps(warming up,pre-reading,skimming, careful reading,summary,discussion and homework ).The design of each step is based on the students'cognition. The connection between teaching activities is natural and reasonable. 2.I set the questions about the reading according to students'basic English level.I try to set and find the simple questions with the reading.In the teaching process,I try to repeat my saying.In this way,I hope the students can clearly understand the topic of the reading. 3.The emotional objectives with this class are active.The words ,phrases and other knowledge can help students expand their horizon about plant exploration. Disadvantages：

1.However,there also remains something to improve.In the warming up and pre-reading,the interaction between teacher and students is not active enough. 2.Because of inadequate preview about the reading,students are short of confidence in the discussion. So the classroom atmosphere is not active enough.Repetitive language destroyed the continuity in the class.
