This Unit mainly focuses on English humor. The aim is to let the Ss enjoy the magic of words. Therefore they need to know more examples and some forms of “play on words”, such as riddles, verbal jokes, tongue twisters and so on. With this, we can promote the Ss’ interest in words and English. 3.教学重点（Teaching important points）

A. Talk about types of “play on words”. B. Understand the key point to understand the meaning behind the words. 4.教学难点（Teaching and difficult points）

A. Find the key of each example. B. Understand the the key and funny point behind the words 5. 教学过程(Teaching procedures) Step I Revision Ask the Ss to translate some sentences into English. .1) 我们不应该使自己仅仅满足于课本知识。

We should not content ourselves with book knowledge only.

Before you listen, look at the exercises below. Try and predict the story. Tell your partner what you think will happen. 1. What was Mary going to do with the cooked plums in the pan? 2. What did John think Mary should have done with the mess in the pan? 3 Listen again and write down the main idea. Step 4 Homework Write down their views about the English humour with the expressions on page 23.
