Learning about language

一、"the + 比较级..., the + 比较级..."句型常表示"越……就越……”，

是一个复合句。逗号前面的部分相当于是状语从句,后面的部分是主句。例如:

1) The harder he works, the more he gets.他工作越努力,得到的就越多。

If he works harder, he gets more. 2) The busier he is, the happier he feels.他越忙越高兴。

If he is busier, he feels happier. 3) The more he gets, the more he wants.他越来越贪。

英译汉：

1）The higher the ground is, the thinner air becomes. 离地面越高,空气就越稀薄。

2）The longer the war lasts, the more the people there will suffer. 战争持续得越久,那里的人们受难就越多。

汉译英：

1）

她越学越想学. The more she learns,the more she wants to learn. 2）

他越不烦恼,工作就干得越好. The less he worried,the better he worked. 3）

她越逢迎我,我越不喜欢她. The more she flatters me, the less I like her. 注意：

这种句型的特点是前后都可以有所省略，特别是谚语、俗语,只要意义明确,越简练越好。

例如: ① The more ,the better.多多益善。

② The sooner, the better.越早越好。

二. with的复合结构： with+宾语+宾补（在句中一般充当状语），此结构可变化为：

1）with+名词(或代词)+现在分词

如：She fell asleep with the light burning. 她开着灯睡觉。

2）with+名词(或代词)+过去分词

如：With nothing left in the cupboard, she went out to get something to eat. 因为家里橱柜里没有吃的了,她出去买些吃的。

3）with+名词(或代词)+形容词

如：She came into the room,with her nose red because of cold. 由于天气寒冷,她出去回来的时候鼻子被冻的红红的。

4）with+名词(或代词)+介词短语

如：The master was walking up and down with the ruler under his arm. 主人走来走去,胳膊下面夹着尺子。

5）with+名词(或代词)+副词

如：With the meal over ,we all went home. 吃完饭后,我们都回家了。

6）with+名词(或代词)+动词不定式

如：He lay in the dark empty house,with not a man ,woman or child to say he was kind to me. 他躺在深空房子,没有一个男人,女人或孩子说,他对我很友善.
