1、To have a good understanding of the history and geography of Australia. 2、To improve students’oral English by giving presentations. 3、To improve the students’ reading comprehension skills and develop their ability of analyzing the difficult sentences.

Teaching content: Reading part of M9U3

Teaching Points: I. Important points 1、Students can have a good understanding of the passage about the history and geography of Australia. 2、Students on display from each study group can make a comment on their homework finished before class.

II. Difficult points 1、Students can match each reading passage with a description below and give an explanation. 2、Students can analyze the difficult sentences by themselves.

III.Teaching procedure: I、Daily report

(3 minutes)

The student on duty gives a presentation on the topic A trip to my hometown II、Warming up & Presentation ( 8 minutes) 1、Lead-in T: Today we are going to learn about a country. It is a country and also a continent. It is surrounded by oceans. While many other countries are having winter, it is in summer. In this country, you will see many plants and animals that cannot be found anywhere else, such as the kangaroo, koala bear, etc. Do you know which country it is? S: Australia. 2、Teacher shows the class some pictures about famous tourist attractions in Australia and ask the students to match the names with the pictures, etc. Great Barrier Reef, Ayers Rock , Sydney 3、Students give a description as follows about the famous tourist attractions in Australia, etc. Sydney, Canberra, Uluru ,Great Barrier Reef Sydney

Uluru a very large red rock in the Northern Territory, Australia, which is the world’s largest stone. It was formerly known as Ayers Rock, but the original Australian name , Uluru, is now preferred. It is another popular tourist destination.

Great Barrier Reef a chain of coral reefs stretching about 2,000 kilometers along the coast of Queensland. This is a world heritage area, famous for its abundant tropical fish and corals.

III Display（学习小组展示）(9 minutes) Students on display from each group make a comment on their homework finished

before class.

IV Discussion and presentation (12 minutes) Each group have a discussion on one text in Unit3 and analyze the difficult points

and share them in class. Meanwhile, share the good sentences in this passage about the description of Australia in class. V Consolidation （8 minutes ）

Students are asked to finish the exercises on their hand-outs and consolidate what they have learned in this lesson.
