Learning about language The Restrictive and Non-Restrictive Attributive Clauses Part1: Analysis of teaching material: The reading material is selected from New Senior English for China. Module 2, U1 Cultural relics. It introduces the missing amber room to the reader. In this text, the author uses many sentences containing the Restrictive and Non-Restrictive Attributive Clauses.

The key point: to learn the difference between the Restrictive and Non-Restrictive Attributive Clauses; to learn when to use the Non-Restrictive Attributive Clause The difficult point: to use the Non-Restrictive Attributive Clause in correct situations.

Step 2 Lead-in(3mins)

1. Go through the reading passage quickly and ask students to find out sentences containing Attributive Clauses.

2. Ask students to observe these sentences and find out the new strucutre.

Step 3 Present (23mins) 1.

Ask students to observe the sentences presented on the powerpoint and find out the difference based on the following aspects:form, function, and translation. First, discuss the rule with group members and then students are expected to present their result.

Ask students to observe another group of sentences and find out when Non-Restrictive Attributive Clause should be used.
