Cooperative learning Teaching procedures: Step1: Lead in Show the students some pictures about three problems (traffic, fire, snake) which are still not perfectly solved; Thus, if they are the first who can invent something to solve those problems, they can be called an inventor with their invention. Purpose: To create a situation for students to understand the topic of this unit: Inventors and inventions Step2: Pre-reading Students are required to discuss with their partners about the right order of the 5 stages in the process of inventing something. Then check the answer through solving the problem of the snakes. Purpose: Understand the stages of invention and introduce our topic today: The problem of the snakes. Step3: Fast-reading

Before reading, divide Ss into 3 groups and encourage them to have a competition among groups to get more scores. Stage 1: Read Para.1 and finish the following questions. 1. Step7: Homework Test your solution to the problem of the fire. And possibly, you can apply for a patent. Reflection: Before I taught this lesson, I have read the text for more than a dozen times. I found that it was easy to get the main idea but difficult to concentrate all the time.. So I applied different ways to read the text and encouraged students to compete among groups to make them active. In the end, I showed them some words said by Edison which would be meaningful when they were trying to invent something.
