Internet Addiction

As a primary source of information as well as an efficient means of communication，

the Internet offers people a colourful and convenient life. Just by clicking the mouse，

we can enjoy a brilliant and easy life that could not be achieved ever before: shopping，

making friends，

contacting relatives，

looking for jobs，

downloading music and movies，

conducting business deals，

and freely airing our opinions. For its convenience，

the Internet has attracted people like magnets and some people even claim that it is indispensable. To them，

life can’t go on without it. Every day millions of people spend hours on end surfing the Internet. They are obsessed with it so much so that they forget many other important matters. As for me，

I don’t approve of unrestrained Internet reliance. Although the Internet is a gift of the technological revolution and a blessing of this information age，

we should never let it control our life. The Internet absolutely doesn’t mean the whole world to us. Instead，

we should guard against its negative effects. To those Internet addicts，

I would add: “Self-control can make or break your life. With proper use，

the Internet serves you; otherwise，

it kills you.”

Social media sadness Are you a social media addict? Are you always checking your smartphone to see how many 'likes' you've received for your latest post? Maybe you feel comforted by the notification sound that someone has sent you a message?Don't worry, you're not alone. We check our phones an average of 150 times a day, and around 30% of the total time spent online is dedicated to social media.

Some experts now fear this habit could be damaging our mental health. This is something particularly affecting young adults, according to a study from the University of Pittsburgh. It found the more they used social media, the more likely they are to be depressed. The study found that exposure to “highly idealised representations of peers on social media causes feelings of envy. Some of us certainly feel sad when we're ignored on social media sites, or when we see someone else having a better time than us. But depression is a more serious condition, which has been getting significantly worse over the last 5-6 years. You can get so hooked（上瘾的） that it takes you away from your real relationships." Other research by Glasgow University found that those with higher levels of emotional investment in social media, and who use it at night, were more likely to feel depressed and anxious. Despite these warning signs, why do some of us continue to keep clicking? Well, I suppose we all want to be liked and we don't want to miss out on a conversation that's taking place online. But we need to know when to switch off our virtual（虚拟的） online world and connect with the real world instead.

You will find ways to make your dreams more real. Have you always wanted to learn a new language or play the piano or guitar? Instead of wasting time on social media, you can actually invest that time into your dreams and watch them become reality. You will be grateful for your life. Breaking up with social media will let you see the reality of the world. You will realize your life is awesome, and that you don’t need to let the things you don’t have while your social media friends do have prevent you from giving thanks for how lucky you’ve been in life.

You will have an improved relationship with your family and friends. Social media may claim to connect you with your family and friends. But in reality it disconnects you from them. When you break up with social media, you will realize that calling, talking, and having dates without social media interruption are great ways to connect with your family and friends. You will see how beautiful the world is. We are only on the earth for a very limited time.
