Teaching Aims:

1. Learn and make full use of some new words and expressions, which can be used in discussion. 2. Improve the students’ reading skills and improve their spoken English. 3. Learn more about a master of nonverbal humour---Charlie Chaplin, which will enrich their experiences and awareness of real life.

Section one: Bring in the theme and make 8 students form a group with contents and attention given.

Section two: Enjoy a piece of video about Charlie Chaplin, with one question and share personal opinions about it. How can we deal with difficulties and sufferings in study or in life? Section Three: Fast Reading Share and read the article named A master of nonverbal humour with two tasks. 1. Conclude the main idea of each paragraph 2. Find key information about Charlie Chaplin and the chart. Section Four: Careful Reading Paragraph 1 1. Please translate the first sentence into Chinese. 2. The writer used what Victor Hugo said in order to_____ Paragraph 2 1. What did he do after his father died during his childhood? 2. How do you know that he had a gift for acting when he was a child? Section Five: Inspire our emotions 1.What can we learn from the whole passage?

2. Improve our sense of life: We should be optimistic and fight for happy life bravely, no matter what difficulties and sufferings we meet with, just as Charlie Chaplin was. As we all know, it is believed,“To be happy or not to be, it is up to us!”

Section Six: Teaching evaluation According to points that every group gets, T finds the winner and awards them
