情感目标: Arouse students’ great interest in the Olympic Games Teaching importance 教学重点: Let students learn more knowledge about the Olympic Games. Teaching difficulty 教学难点: Enable the students to find out the similarities and differences between ancient and modern Olympic Games.

Teaching methods 教学方法: Task-based learning, Listening, Scanning，Discussion Teaching procedures

教学过程: Step 1.

Preview check. 1. Enjoy the song Welcome to Beijing and lead-in the topic- Olympics.

2. Check the students’ preview by answering questions related to Olympic Games. Step 2.

Reading. 1.Prediction: read the title and predict what will be talked about in the passage. 2.Listening: listen to the tape to check whether your prediction is right and to get the main idea of the passage.

3.Careful reading:

1).scan for the detailed information. 2).true or false judgment. 3).comparison: glance through the passage again to find out the differences and similarities of the ancient and modern Olympic Games. Step 3.

Discussion. Why do many countries want to host the Olympic Games while others do not? Step 4.

Summary. Lead the students to sum up the passage by filling the blanks. Step 5.

Homework. 1. Find more information about the Olympic Games after class, and prepare a short speech by using this information. 2. Preview task: read through the passage; pick out the new language points and structures that are difficult to understand.
