1. To learn some knowledge about natural disasters such as volcano, hurricane, earthquake, flood and so on. 2. To learn how to protect ourselves before natural disasters. 3. To develop the students' speaking ability by discussing and reporting. Emotion, attitude and value:

1. To arouse the awareness of self-protection when facing natural disasters. 2. To encourage students to have courage and confidence when in trouble. 3. To know about the importance of a volcanologist. 4. To arouse the awareness of environmental protection. Process and methods: 1.While doing warming up the teacher can lead in the topic of this unit by showing students some pictures of natural disasters. 2.During pre-reading the teacher can go around the class and discuss with several students. This discussion should be student-centered and arouse students’

interest in working outside. Important and difficult points: 1. To help students learn about something about a volcano. 2. To lead students to talk about escaping from a natural disaster 1

3. To finish writing a letter of advice according to what have been learnt in this lesson. Teaching methods: Asking &answering method, task-based method, individual and group work Teaching procedures: Step1. Lead-in Compare the pictures in the past and now. Draw a conclusion: Human beings are so powerful. We have changed the world greatly. Purpose: lead into the topic of this unit. Step2.having a guess To get the students to guess some words to be used in this class. Task: let the students guess by using body language. Purpose: Make the students be interested in the topic of this period. Step3.Brainstorm Task: know more about natural disasters and their harm. Purpose: Know more about volcano and some natural disasters. Step 4 Discussion Task: Discuss how to protect ourselves from powerful natural force. Purpose: to train the students’ speaking ability; to find some expressions for writing. Step 5: Pre-reading Task 1: Do a quiz.

Task 2: Have a discussion: Do you want to be a volcanologist? What skills do you think a volcanologist should have? 2

Purpose: 1. Students may be willing to learn through team work. 2.to lead the students’ to speak. Step 6: Writing

一、教材依据

人教版选修六unit 5 The Power of Nature第一课时阅读教学设计

二、教材内容分析

本单元的中心话题是火山、飓风、地震和洪水等自然灾害，听说读写等语言知识和技能都是围绕“自然灾害”及如何预防和利用自然灾害这一主题设计的。本单元要求学生了解自然界的威力，认识到人类只有保护自然，才能有效地预防自然灾害并改造和利用自然。阅读部分是一位火山学家的自述。通过介绍自己的工作性质和主要工作内容，作者表达了对工作的热情。许多年后，火山对他的吸引力依然不减。

三、学生分析

经过一段时间的学习和阅读训练，学生虽已具备一定的阅读理解能力，但在有限的时间内查找特定的信息和分析处理的能力还有待提高。对文章内容的提炼和概括的能力仍就欠缺，将课堂中被输入的信息点转化为自己输出的信息，并且口头表达出来的能力也有待于加强和引导。

四、设计思想和理念

依据美国著名的应用语言学家克拉申的“输入假设理论”：充分而有效的语言输入是语言能力发展的前提和保证。即学习者要想掌握语言就需要真实而全面的语言输入。因此在课堂讲述中我充分关注有效的语言输入对学生英语习得的关键作用。在教学中注意提供给学生大量的可理解性的语言输入，使学生自然而然地获得语言能力，习得目的语，使学生在自然的交流中学会表达、乐于表达，有用英语表达思想，交流情感的需要。同时，根据《高中英语教学大纲》的要求，在课堂教学中，必须以学生为主体，为中心进行教学，教师在教学中起主导作用。因此我采用任务型教学方式，每一部分都设有一定的任务，引导学生自主或者合作讨论完成。整个教学活动以教材为载体，以学生为中心。学生参与活动贯穿始终。学生既有个人活动，又有小组活动和班级活动。积极参与小组的各项活动，展现自己和小组的能力，并培养团队协作能力。在整个教学活动中，学生充分调动其各个感官进行听、说、读、写，积极主动的学习。再者，学生的学习活动必须有效地与实际结合起来学习4

才更有动力，更有意义。因此，在教学中我结合实际，使学生对自然的力量有着更深切的体会，更深刻的认识到只有保护自然，才能有效的预防自然灾害；只有刻苦的学习科学文化知识才能有效的改造和利用自然。

五、教学策略

合作学习策略 合作学习强调通过师生、生生的多边互动进行情感沟通、信息交流，满足学生交流需要，培养学生的合作意识和合作能力。

体验成功策略 通过给学生设定各种各样的任务和教学活动使学生在特定的完成任务过程中主动积极地获得和积累相应的学习经验，享受成功的喜悦，从而提高学习兴趣和满足学生渴望成功的愿望。

六、学习策略

引导学生自主学习、合作学习。帮助学生学会分析文字和视频信息，挖掘出这些信息所包含的意义。引导学生用英语表达思想。通过运用比较，列举等方法教给学生分析和解决问题的能力。
