A recorder Teaching Procedures: Step I: Greetings Step II: Lead-in Ask some students to tell us his or her perfect jobs, and then lead the listening topic: Are women given a fair chance to have a good career? Step III: Listening Task1: Listen to the tape for the first time and try to write down some key words and get the main idea. (B) A. Why is it hard for women to balance her work and home? I don't think women are given a fair chance to have as good as a career as men for three reasons. First, girls have more difficulty getting an education than boys. If there is a little money in the family, boys will get the first chance to go to school. Even if girls do begin school, they often leave earlier to help the family or go to work. It is often felt that girls will marry and look after another family but that boys must earn money for the family. This way of thinking prevents some girls from training for a career. Second, women have more difficulty getting to the top of their chosen career. Most people who run companies are men. So they choose other men to succeed them. This means that women get fewer chances to show how good they are at running businesses. Unless they are given the opportunity, they will never be able to show that they can run companies successfully.

Third, women are more likely to give up their careers to look after children or run the house. This is because these kinds of responsibilities are considered women's work.

However, men don't have this problem. They can work long hours and go on

business trips. They can improve their career chances since the family is cared for at home. Step IV: Speaking Divide the students into 4 groups, offering four topics concerned with the listening material. Let each group chooses one topic and give them 5-7 minutes to prepare. Finally, act the dialogue. Task1: Student A acts as the mother, and student B acts as the daughter. The daughter asks her mother some questions such as her career ambition when she was young and compares it with her later job. Try to brainstorm some questions. Task2: Student A acts as the reporter, and his partner B acts as a student. B chooses a great woman to answer A’s questions. Task3: In order to find a good job, what qualities should women have? Make a dialogue between two students to discuss the question, using some adjectives. Task4: The problem that women are not given a fair chance to get job is severe.(严峻的）Make a dialogue between two students to give the solutions to the problem. You can discuss it from the following aspects:
