(1) Let SS understand the process of the origin of life (2) Get SS to have knowledge of solar system 6. Difficult points (1) Develop SS’ ability of acquiring, analyzing, and dealing with information. (2) Retell the process

of the origin of life

7. Procedures and time allotment Stage 1 Lead in (5 min) (Purpose: Get SS learn some words about astronomy and T leads in the topic of this lesson. And arouse SS’ interest to inspire them to explore the space) Step 1 Learn some astronomical terms

[T shows some pictures to help SS understand “astronomy”, “astronomer”, “the Black Hole”, “the Milky Way”, “Total Solar Eclipse”, “Total Lunar Eclipse”, “Meteor Shower”, and Solar System]

Step 2 Learn the eight planets in solar system Activity 1 Know more about our solar system [T asks SS two questions and shows them the pictures of eight planets. Then T tells SS the English names of these planets. Next, T lets SS watch a video to know why Pluto is removed from the planets.] T: How many planets circle around the sun in the solar system? S: 8. T: And what are the names of those planets? S: 金星、水星……

T: Let’s see a picture together.

(T teaches SS to know the planets) T: And in this picture, do you find a star we haven’t mentioned? S: Yes, the farthest one. T: what is it? S: Pluto. T: Years ago, there are nine planets in solar system including Pluto. But later Pluto was removed from the planets, so now there are eight planets. Do you know why? S: No. T: Let’s watch a video to know more about it. Stage 2 Pre-reading (3 min) (Purpose: make SS know about the background knowledge of life evolution and prepare for reading) Activity 2: Discuss the beginning of the universe and origin of life in different religions and cultures T: Each religion and culture has its own ideas about how life began on the earth. Now please discuss in groups the beginning of the universe and origin of life in different religions and cultures. You can discuss from the aspects of mythology and science. S: …
