Lead-in Ask some students to tell some Chinese jokes, and the teacher show some

Chinese English jokes to make the students think about what English jokes are. (让学生自己讲几个汉语笑话，烘托课堂气氛，然后老师展示几个中式英语

笑话，让学生思考：英文笑话是这样的吗? 如果不是，那又是如何引人发

笑的？）

Step II Real English jokes Give some real English jokes to make the students realize the way of English

C: What’s that fly doing in my soup?

W: Swimming. I think!

Conclusion: punchline 所谓pun, 通常是指利用一个单词的两个含义, 或者利用两个特定的

单词, 达到“一语双关”的目的。

(通过真实的英文笑话让学生体会英文笑话的方式，更容易使学生理解) Step III A funny story Some jokes are longer and tell a short, funny story. The following is one of those jokes about the famous detective Sherlock Holmes and his friend Doctor Watson.

（英文笑话除了“双关语”这种方式，还有比较长一点的幽默小故事，学习课本中的一段神探夏洛特和他朋友的故事，体会英式笑话的其他方式。）

Step V

Role play Change the story of Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson into a dialogue. Act it in groups of three-Holmes, Watson and a narrator. Pay special attention to the rhythm and intonation of what you say and try to bring out the humor。

Step VI

Homework Think about the similarities and differences between Chinese and English

jokes.Write a dialogue with your partners. 1.

Find the most interesting words to describe how you felt or what

was happening. 2. Make sure that there is at least one point that can make people laugh. 3. Read the dialogue to your classmates with your partners. (课后让学生思考中式笑话和英式笑话的异同点，能加深学生对于

西式幽默的理解。）
