Teaching Design of Unit 4 A visit to the moon Analysis of the teaching material：It is the using language part of Unit 4 Astronomy,which is a science travel journal full of imagination. The author and his friend got a chance to visit the moon. They experienced the changes of gravity and the passage illustrate their feelings of the round trip. The conversation between the two friends shows the excitement about what they thought and experienced on the moon, which is sure to leave a deep impression on the students and arouse their exploration towards the universe.

Analysis of the students: The first grade students have a better comprehension of the passage in locating and processing information and the ability of analyzing and solving problems. They are very wise to respond to the learning tasks. The teacher intentionally design the tasks to foster their thinking and expression ability, which not only improve their reading skills, but also their ability in cooperation and communication. Teaching aims: Trough the learning of the passage, the students are able to: 1.comprehend the passage by skimming for the main idea and scanning for the detailed information; 2.remember and grasp some basic lexical chunks; 3.cooperate with each other and inspire their interest in solving space problems. Teaching important and difficult points：

Teaching procedure：

Step I lead-in and Warming up

Appreciate a video “walk on the moon” to lead in and warm up 【design purpose】arouse the learning interest, watch and listen to learn to express the experience. Step2 Fast-reading: Complete the reading questions on the PAD；

【design purpose】Skimming for comprehension information to develop students’ ability in reading. While answering the questions, the result can be shown on the PAD and we can deal with the questions in time. The clear demonstration of the result will help students focus on the problem and relocate the information. It’s very beneficial for students thinking ability and prepare for the careful reading.

Step3 Careful reading Read for detailed information to find out the changes of gravity and their weight.

【design purpose】assist the students to find out the information and sum up the details. Meanwhile find out the key sentences to further comprehension. Step 4 lexical chunks Ask the students to focus on lexical chunks and take pictures.

【design purpose】the students demonstrate their work and explain to the whole class. No matter the finding process or the illustration part is very helpful to develop confidence and positive attitude towards learning. Step5 writing First of all, brainstorm what problems will exist if people want to travel or live on the moon. Then, have a discussion and write out 3-5sentences about solution to one of the problems. Last, demonstrate and explain to the whole class.

【design purpose】develop students ability in organizing words, applying language, analysing and solving problems. In completing this part, the students have to cooperate with each other to gather information and consolidate the chunks. Meanwhile, they will achieve a lot when explaining their ideas.

Step6 homework Polish your written work, share with your classmates and recite the chunks.

Reflections:

With the aid of PAD, the teacher can get feedback in time, which is helpful to find problems and solve them. The students’

learning interest is maintained through activities, especially when they are invited to demonstrate and explain their work. The teacher should improve the teaching technique to accelerate study and further the learning. Time permitting, more students should be invited and demonstrate. After all, the reading and writing is to develop students’ thinking ability: analyzing and solving problem.
