Teaching process: STEP1 Warm-up/Revision T: Hello, boys and girls! Let’s begin our class. First, I want to ask you: how many numbers have you learned? Yes, fourteen numbers. Can you count them? Let’s count from one to fourteen. Do you like numbers? OK, let’s enjoy: sing a song together. Stand up, please. Sing a song: The number song. T: Next, let’s have a short revision.

Revision: Which class are you in? I’m in Class…Grade…What’s your number? I’m number…

T: OK, the sentences I asked are which we have learned before. Do

you remember them? Very good! Let’s have our new class.

STEP2 Presentation 1. New words: Show pictures of five. T: Look at this number. It’s five. Now it begins to change. Look at it carefully. Oh, the letter “v and e” change to “f”, besides, it adds “teen”, so how to say the new number? What’s its meaning? Yes, it means this number. (Show the picture of 15) How to say it? Listen to the tape and try to follow it. So now we know what’s Peter’s number?

He’s fifteen.

Read fifteen one by one. Use the same way to learn sixteen. Short practice: Count from 1 to 16, and count from 16 to 11. Show me fifteen, show me twelve, show me sixteen and so on. T: Now I’ll show you a group of numbers. Read them as quickly as possible. Are you ready? Show a group of number pictures. 2. Write the new number words: Watch a video and show fingers to follow it. Open exercise books and look at the blackboard to learn how to write. 3. New sentences: Show a picture of apple tree. T: Look at this tree. How many apples are there in the tree? It’s five.

Show another picture of apple tree. T: And look at this tree? How many apples? It’s fifteen. From five to fifteen, how to change? Yes, adds ten. So this equation we can say “five and ten is fifteen.”

Use the same way to show how to change from six to sixteen. Show the plus and turn to the word “and”.

T: From these, we may know this plus we can use the word “and” to express it in English. Show a question: 1+2=? T: But how to ask this question in English?—what’s…and …? Answer—it’s three. So we may know if we want to ask an addition question, you can use this sentence (Write on the blackboard: What’s…and…? It’s …)

Listen to the tape and think about question: 1. How many questions does Lisa ask? 2. What’s Mimi’s number?

3. Does Mimi answer the questions correctly? Listen to the tape and try to follow it. Work in pairs and try to practice this dialog. STEP3 Practice 1. Find your neighbours: Watch the video together. To guess what’s the meaning of neighbour.

Show the picture of 13, 14, 15 and 16. Ask: what are its neighbours? 2. Rabbit jumping:

T: What’s this? It’s a dog. It’s a very clever animal. It can do math problems. Let’s have a try.

Show a question: 2+4=? T: How to ask this question? What’s two and four? How to answer? Listen to it carefully. (Tape: dog’s bark) How many sounds does it bark? Yes, six. So it tells us two and four is six. Show a picture of rabbit. T: But what’s this? It’s a rabbit. Can rabbits bark? No, but they can jump. So how to solve questions? (Show questions) Who can help it? Ask a student to the front. And the other students ask the question in English. Then the student who is before the class begins to jump. The other students count the right number. And answer: “it’s…”

3. Help the frogs: T: Let’s go through the forests, and we’ll find a river. The frogs want to go to the other side of the river. But they must go through these leaves. Oh, there are many equations on the leaves. Can you help them? Answer them one by one. 4. Listen and match: Listen to the math questions and match to the right answer.
