Book4 Unit1 Women of achievement

The contents of teaching plan: Book4 Unit 1 Warming Up, Pre-reading and Reading Part 1 Teaching aims 1. Knowledge aims:

(1) Get the Ss to learn some useful new words and expressions of this part Words:

achievement, welfare, project, institute, specialist, connection, campaign, organization, behave, shade, worthwhile, nest, nod, observe, outspoken, respect, argue; Sentences:

a.Watching a family of chimps wake up is our first activity of the day.

b.Following Jane’s way of studying chimps, our group are all going to visit them in the forest. (2)

Know more about Jane Goodall as a great woman and learn what qualities a woman should have to be a great woman. 2. Ability aims

(1). Learn Warming Up, and know something about the great women . (2). Learn the way to describe a person from what the person did, what she/he looks like and so on.

3. Attitude and value aims:

By reading a protector of African wildlife, students can learn from Jane Goodall in at least two aspects: one is what is the humane way to study animals; the other is that it was her great personality - universal love and mercy that made her successful. If everyone had such kind of heart, they would give everything benefit for all living things. Then our world will be full of love and peace, without any war and starvation. Part 2 Teaching important points 1. Improve Ss’ reading ability by task-based reading and master different reading skills. 2. Inspire students to know what made Jane Goodall a great success and what we should learn from her. Part 3 Teaching difficult points Let everyone believe that all of us can become Jane Goodall. Part 4 Teaching methods Inspiration, task-based reading and group work. Part5 Teaching aids Electronic whiteboard and a recorder. Teaching procedures & ways

Step1 Lead-in Show Ss the pictures of six great women and ask them if they know them and who are they.

Step2 Warming Up Read the brief introductions of these six women and in groups discuss what makes them great and what they have in common. Step3 Pre-reading 1. Read the outline of Jane Goodall and know more about her. 2. Let Ss look at the title and some pictures and predict the content. Then skim the passage and answer the following questions: (1). Who is the protector? (2).What animals were observed? (3). Where are the photos taken?

After pre-reading, divide Ss into 6 groups and each group can get 2 points if they finish the following reading tasks well. Step4 Fast reading 1.

Listen to the tape and answer the following questions: (1).What did our group do in Gombe National Park? (2points) (2).What has Jane Goodall spent years doing in the forest? (2points) (3).What’s the purpose of her study? (2points) 2. Match each paragraph with its main idea. Para1

Ask each group conclude their answers of question 3 on a piece of paper and show their papers to us all and share answers together. If their answer is perfect, they can get 10 points for this task. Until now , we will know which group get the highest scores for today’s English reading class , give the winner a big applause and inspire other

groups to learn from them. At last, let Ss enjoy a proverb of Jane Goodall. Step 7 Homework 1. Make a summary of today’s reading passage. 2. Finish the exercise 1 and exercise 2 on Page 4.
