此阅读部分主要介绍中国著名的农业科学家袁隆平的生平和他对杂交水稻的贡献。第一段描述了袁博士的外表——他更象一个农民而不象一个科学家，农村就是他做科研的殿堂。他的科研成果就是超级杂交水稻。

第二段描述他的家庭出身，学业，献身水稻科研的原因及所取得的成就。第三段告诉我们袁博士过着跟普通人一样的生活却干着伟大的事业。即使在功成名就之后，他也淡泊名利, 有着无私奉献的高尚精神。第四段写他的两个梦想：他的第一个梦想是他研究出的杂交水稻长得和高粱一样高，它的叶子要和玉米的

叶子一样大，谷子和花生一样大颗。他的第二个梦想是他的杂交水稻出口到全世界各地，以便于它可以在全世界各地种植。

一、设计与施教理念

通过<<锄禾>>这首中国的古诗引出粮食来之不易.问学生我们的日常主食是什么?(米饭) 如果哪一天没米饭吃了，会出现什么情况，就会出现饥饿，现在，据统计全世界一年就有 8亿5千多万人死于饥饿，引出为解决世人饥饿问题而献身于杂交水稻研究的“水稻之父”袁隆平。整体设计理念是让学生略读，找出各个段落大意，然后让学生细读，找出细节信息。通过设计各种题型：如：回答问题，把事件按时间排序，根据时间填表格信息等，让学生看课文并一两人或四人一小组来讨论解决问题，发表自己的观点，让学生了解具体信息的。最后专门安排了一个课文大意总结和一个话题讨论，让学生上台表演，让学生分别以笔头和口头的方式让学生输出本节课所学信息，达到熟悉本节内容和灵活运用的目的。为了激起学生的竞争设计组与组之间的竞赛，主动举手答对问题能为自己小组争得一面红旗。
