Let the students learn how to summarize the sentences using the-ing form as the Subject or Object. 2.

Learn Yuan Longping’s struggling for all people and his determination to overcome the difficulties. 2.

Cultivate students’ interest to English. Teaching difficulties and emphasis: Learn to finish sentences using the –ing form as the Subject or Object. Teaching aids: A computer and a projector. Teaching procedures & ways: Step1. Lead in Give the students two pictures of Yuan Longping and talk about something about Dr. Yuan. Then the students will find a word “sunburnt”. Finally, lead in the topic: there are many new words just like “sunburnt”. How we should master them? Step2. Word study and training Discover useful words and expressions and try to learn to master and use them flexibly. 1.

Ask the students to try to find the word or phrase from the text for each of these meanings and fill in the blanks.

Ask the students to complete the passage with the words below in their proper forms. Then let them read the passage together. Step3. Sentence study and a game 1.

Give the students the sentence: Growing super hybrid rice is not easy. The teacher and the students analyze and find: The –ing form as the Subject. 2.

Play a game. Try to use the interested persons and things around the students: the teacher Mr. Wang, the classmates Zeng Xiaoyu, old campus liked by the students and our school activity. The students master The –ing form as the Subject by finishing the exercises. Step4. Sentence study and discussion 1.

Let the students discuss in groups: Which verbs are followed by doing? Which by to do? Which by both to do and doing? Step5. Training Practice makes perfect. Let the students choose the correct word or phrase from the box to finish each sentence. Be sure to use to do and –ing forms correctly. Step6. Homework. 1.

Summarize the rules of v-ing form as the Subject and Object in your own way. 2.

Finish the remaining exercises of “Discovering useful structures” on Page 13.
