I. words

Although I was young, I can simplify difficult sums.

固定短语：in sum= in a word 总之

sum up 总结，概括

a large sum of 大量，许多（修饰不可数名词）

拓展：表示“总之”的短语有：to sum up, in sum, in short, all in all, in a word, in brief

Ⅱ. 重点短语句型突破

1. As the years have gone by, …

随着

（1）go by 经过(某地)；(时间)过去；(机会等)失去；遵循，依据……办事

go by = pass

①A car went by at full speed.一辆汽车全速驶过。

②The weeks went slowly by. 一星期一星期慢慢地过去了。

③Don't let this chance go by. 不要错失这次机会。

④That is a good rule to go by.那是需要遵守的好规章。

（2）as conj.

随着……，引导时间状语从句。

表示“随着……”时，也可以用with，而with 用作介词, 后接名词短语,形成with复合结构。

Eg. As time went on, Einstein's theory proved to be correct.

随着时间的推移，爱因斯坦的理论证明是正确的。

With the passing of the years, they have become close friends.

几年过去了，他们已成了亲密朋友。

2. Over time my memory has developed so much that, like an elephant….

(1) over time 随着时间

= with time going on/ by= As time went on/ by

(2) so + 形容词(副词)+ that….

such + 名词

+ that….

①so…that引导结果状语从句，其结构是：

so+ adj.／adv. + that so+ adj. +a(n)+单数可数名词+ that so+ many／few+可数名词复数+ that so+ much／little+不可数名词+ that ②such…that也可引导结果状语从句，其结构是：

such-+ a(n)+ adj.+单数可数名词+ that such+ (adj.)+不可数名词+ that such+ (adj.)+可数名词复数+ that He was so excited that he could not speak He ran so fast that I couldn’t catch up with him.

③so that ---

因此, 结果

He got up late, so that he didn’t get to work on time.

The stone is so heavy that no one can lift it. We left early so that we could catch the first train.

④so + 形容词(副词)+ that….结构中

so + 形容词(副词)在句首时,句子用倒装结构

He works so hard that he seldom goes home. So hard does he work that he seldom goes home. 当堂练习

Thanks to the Internet, the world is becoming smaller and smaller and I think it’s good for people. Firstly, with the help of the Internet, it’s possible for people to work at home with a computer in front, getting and sending the information they need. Secondly, they can also choose to buy or sell whatever they want by the Internet, while traditional shops don’t provide them with such great freedom. Besides, surfing the Internet, they can download all kinds of information whenever it’s necessary and e-mails can be sent to their friends in just a few seconds. What's more, after a whole day's hard work, they can play online games with friends to relax themselves for a while.
