This is the fourth teaching period of this unit. As usual, I’ll check students'homework and offer chances for them to go over what they learned in the last period at the beginning of the class and then lead in the new lessonIn this period, we will deal with following part: Reading on page 5.The teaching emphasis will be put on developing students’

reading ability by reading extensively and speaking ability by using the expressions of asking for opinions and giving opinions While reading, get students learning to use some reading strategies sueh as skimming and scanning. As to new words and phrases, I can find those students feel most difficult and help them to understand. The reading passage on page 5introduces the difference between facts and opinions. Students are provided with a definition and an example for each term The teacher can lead in the topic by asking students questions about facts and opinions and then let them read the passage. As a further check for understanding, the teacher may want to photocopy a brief newspaper article, preferably one which talks about a crime trial. Then have students pick out the facts and opinions and give reasons for their answers. Reading task on page 45 tells students something about Feng Jicai and how he rescued cultural relics in his home town. Ask them to read the passage, answer some ques tions, tell his story and learn from him. roof is under repair. At the end of the class, students should have a discussion on whether China should save all of its cultural relics to finish their speaking task.
