Analysis of Teaching Material This unit mainly introduces students to English humour. One thing to remember is that humour is particular to each culture.This class is the second period of reading. The passage“English jokes ”talks about two kinds of English jokes, and one is “play on words” and the other is some short funny stories , which shows the British 's life and culture. Both jokes are very popular in English -speaking countries. Perhaps

students may find the material funny and amusing ,or they may be not, so this class is am to lead students to find the funny things and learn to enjoy English humour.

Ⅱ.The goal of Teaching The students will be helped to improve their reading ability and listening ability and speaking ability through listening , carefully reading and role playing, to enjoy and have a taste of English humour. Language Focus: In this period, the students will learn and master the following words and phrases: pancake, explanation,detective,vast,mountainous,whisper, play on words, amuse sb

Language Skills: In this period, the students will be guided to use listening and careful reading skills to obtain and analyze the needed information. Learning Strategies: 1. Cognitive Strategy: In this period, with the help of chart , audio and video ,the students will be able to find out the main structure and content of the passage . 2. Communication Strategy: In this period, the students will be organized to cooperate with others to express their own opinions about English humour.

3. Adjusting and Controlling Strategy: The students will have a chance to make self-assessment by understanding the English humour.

Affection: In this period, the students will be encouraged to cultivate a positive attitude towards life and be optimistic about some hard times in life. Culture: In this period, the students will be inspired to appreciate the western culture through English humour, and briefly learn the difference between Chinese humour and English humour. Ⅲ.The Difficult and Key Point of Teaching 1. The students should find the punchline of each jokes and try to understand them and explain them by their own words. 2.
