Teaching goals

1.

Get Ss to learn some key words and phrases: get along with, fall in love with, stupid, gossip, grown-up 2.

Help Ss develop their skills of listening for the main idea and the detailed information. 3.

Encourage Ss to express their ideas according to what they’ve heard and give their suggestions. 4.

Make Ss give their opinions on an argument, using ways of expressing agreement and disagreement. 5.

Make Ss more aware of “teenager’s trouble” and help them develop strategies to deal with it.

Teaching important points: Listen to the material about Miss Wang’s letter and complete the listening exercises.

Teaching difficult points: Discuss with other Ss and then express your opinions in your own words. Teaching procedures: Step 1. preparation

Get Ss to talk about their senior high school life, mention and express the following words and phrases: get along with, fall in love with, stupid, gossip, grown-up Step 2. reading and answering 1.

Tell Ss: teenagers like you may meet with some troubles in your daily lives, but you can ask for help like Lisa does. 2.

Ask Ss to read Lisa’s letter(p6), answer the following two Qs .

1).Should Lisa end relationship with this boy? Why?

2).Can you give Lisa any suggestions? 3. Ask Ss to guess what will Miss Wang reply. Step 3. listen for the main idea Ask Ss to listen to Miss Wang’s reply and check their guessing, thinking of the Qs:

What is Miss Wang's advice? Does she has the same opinion with you? Step 4. listen for the detailed information 1.

Ask Ss to listen to the tape carefully twice and finish listening exercise 2 &3 on page 6. 2.

Divide Ss into four groups and ask each group to focus on one specific question. 3.

check their answers, replay and explain the listening material if necessary.

Step 5. Speaking

Tell Ss: the key factor that cause Lisa’s trouble may be that someone think girls and boys can’t be real friends. Then get them to discuss the argument: Do you think school boys and girls can be real friends? 2.

Ss discuss in groups and choose one representative to speak out their opinion using ways of expressing agreement and disagreement. 3.

T: now we’ve done enough for Lisa’s trouble, and what’s your “teenager’s trouble”? Encourage them to speak out their own trouble and try to help them deal with it. If not, leave it as a homework.

Homework: 1. Write down what troubles you and seek help if necessary. 2. Preview the writing (p7).
