Step 1. Warming up 1.Get the Ss to complete some word exercises by working in groups. 2.Guide Ss to finish another word& expression exercises shown on PPT in answer race. Step 2. Fast Reading 1. Asking & answering

a. Do you know what chemical & organic farming are? b. Can you list some advantages or disadvantages of the two types of farming? (The purpose of this step is to let students know more about working the land. By asking & answering the following questions, students can understand better what chemical &organic farming are.) 2. Fast reading Ask Ss to read the passage fast & answer some designed questions in their Guided Learning Plan. 1. What are the problems caused by chemical fertilizers? 2. What other methods can be used to keep the soil fertile?

(The purpose of fast reading is to let students find some useful information, and get familiar with the text. So in this step, some questions are designed for students, so that they can easily find the answers and finish the reading task.) Step3.
