教材分析（The analysis of the teaching material）

本课在本学科教学中所处的地位和作用（The importance of this lesson）The passage talks about one of the natural disasters-- earthquake. And this lesson contains many words and expressions related to earthquake. So it helps enlarge students’ vocabulary.

What’s more, the passage is written as a report.

教学重点及难点（Key and difficult points）

Key points: To understand the general idea of this passage and get the main information of earthquake. Difficult points:

To develop some basic reading skills, especially the ability to summarize the main idea of the passage. 教学目标（Teaching Goals）

Knowledge objects:

To know how to read some words and phrases, and understand the general idea of the passage. Get to know more about the earthquake. Emotion

objects: Enable the students to be aware of the influence of earthquake and learn to protect themselves and the others.

Encourage the students to be brave and optimistic when faced with difficulty. Develop the awareness of helping people in need.

教法与学法（Teaching and learning approach）

学生学习情况分析:The

students are not strange with earthquakes and they have heard or even experienced an earthquake. They are interested in the topic. Besides, they have learnt the words and expressions in this unit, so the passage is not too difficult for most of the students. Last but not least,

they are not good at finding information in passage and they need to practice more. 教学方法:

student-centered teaching, task-based teaching 学法指导: reading, translating, scanning, discussing and teamwork 3.教学过程(Teaching procedures)

Step I Lead-in and Pre-reading Purpose: To make students feel more familiar with the topic and stimulate their interests in learning the passage. Step ⅡFast-reading Purpose: To help the students get to know the topic of the passage, and develop their ability in summing up. To help the students have a general understanding of the passage. Step III Careful- reading Purpose: To develop the students’ reading skills of predicting, skimming, scanning, and careful reading. Step IV Retell the passage Purpose: To examine and check the result of this class, help students review the text and correct their mistakes. Step V Role-play show time Purpose: To practice their oral English and deepen their understanding of the text. To make them work in pairs and enjoy learning English. Step VI Homework Purpose: To consolidate the knowledge learnt in class and increase the input.
