Teaching Aims:

Knowledge aims: To make students listen to a story of a funny story about jam. Ability aims: To improve their listening comprehension ability through some listening steps. And help students improve the ability of input and output through the listening, discussion and performance. Emotional aims: Improve students’interest in English and let them become more and more interesting and amusing. Teaching important point：How to understand the funny story about jam through listening. Teaching difficult points: How to help students improve their listenting ability and learn to catch some key words and phrases in the listening. Teaching Methods:

Teaching type: Listening Teaching Aid: The multimedia Teaching Procedures：

Step 1. Lead-in Show some amusing pictures to students and then ask them some questions: what are you laughing for? What forms of humour do you know? I will inturoduce some humourous manners through the activity: mime, verbal jokes，short sketch，crosstalk，comedy，p antomime，funny pictures, funny stories/poems, clown. So the purpose of the activity is that help students have a good knowledge of the topic of humour and some humourous ways. And it can help students to learn the reading passage in further.

Step 2. Pre-listening

1.Dictation (new words in the listening materials) 2.Review the grammar, the form of v.-ing acts as adverbial modifier. Step 3. While-listening Firstly let students listen to the funny story carefully and answer a question:

What is the main idea of the story? And then let them try to put these sentences in order, and check it right or not. 1. Mary got angry with John. 2. Mary saw the chickens behaving strangely. 3. John was sorry. 4. The chickens enjoyed the jam.

Secondly, invite students listen to the tape carefully once more and answer the following two questions. 1. What was Mary going to do with the cooked plums in the pan? 2. What did John think Mary should have done with the mess in the pan? 3.What do you think Mary is going to say when she finds out what has happened? 4. How do you think John will react to her? Thirdly, invite students listen to the story again and then fill in the blanks while listening the tape. “You _________ my jam,”

she shouted. “Oh, ___________ what it was,”

he said. “I’m _________ but I thought it was ____________ which had gone bad in the hot weather. The chickens have ____________ the jam, but it’s made them ______________.”

Step 4. Post-listening 1. Review the story of the funny story about jam, 2. Discuss the with your partner whether you think the story you listened to is funny and give your reasons. 3. Ask the students think of a funny English or Chinese story and tell it to your partner. While telling your story, use facial expressions and some acting to help make the story as funny as you can. Step 5. Summary and Homework

Summary: Invite one student to summarize the story we have listened today. Homework: Write down the story, using a logical order, and read it to your partner as well as ask for advice Step 6. Blackboard Design
