Teaching

Step 1 Revision and lead-in Read the passage, and then find out the sentences with V-ing form in the text. 1. Since then, finding ways to grow more rice has been his life goal.

2. As a young man, he saw the great need for increasing the rice output.

3. He enjoys listening to violin music, playing mahjong, swimming and reading.

4. Spending money on himself or leading a comfortable life also means very little to him.

Step 2

Discovering useful structures------ V-ing form Students read the sentences and then find out useful structures. 1).

Listening to music is one of my favorite hobbies. 2).

Joan suggested asking her father for his opinion. 3).

The man left the party without saying goodbye to the host. 4).

The squirrel was lucky that it missed being caught.

I remember having told him the news.

Summary: 仔细观察以上句子，V-ing在这些句子中相当于_____词的作用，但是又有动词的特征。在句子中作___主语____和____宾语_____成分。动词-ing形式不能单独作谓语, 没有人称和数的变化, 但可以有自己的宾语和状语, 还有时态和语态的变化。

V-ing 做主语，谓语动词用___单___数。

4) Dr Yuan awoke from his dream with the hope of producing a kind of rice that could feed more people.

V-ing既可作____动___词的宾语，也可作___介____词的宾语。

appreciate, avoid, can‘t stand, consider, delay, enjoy, escape, finish, forgive, give up, imagine, mind, put off, suggest ...

eg: I can’t stand living in such a polluted city.

注意!

forget, go on, mean, regret, remember, stop, try, be used to, can't help后跟动名词和跟不定式区别较大，

例如：

I can’t help laughing when I heard the excited news.

I can’t help to solve that problem.
