一、教学内容分析

This unit is about wildlife protection. The reading passage plays an important part in this unit. If the Ss can learn it well, it will be helpful for them to learn the rest of this unit because it contains many important words and phrases about the topic. The text introduces the wildlife situation in Tibet, Zimbabwe and a rain forest through three animals, an antelope, an elephant and a monkey. By reading the text, Ss will become aware of the importance of wildlife protection. Besides, the lesson can help develop Ss’ reading abilities such as skimming, scanning and careful reading.

二、教学目标

Knowledge aims: Help Ss learn about some endangered animals and the knowledge of wildlife protection; master some key words and phrases related to the topic, such as endangered, die out, habitat, etc. Ability aims:

Improve Ss’

reading abilities, especially their skimming, scanning and careful reading ability; train Ss’ sense of working in groups. Emotion aims:

Ss will learn about the importance of wildlife protection and learn what they can do to protect wildlife from dying out; develop Ss’ sense of cooperative learning Key points:

Help Ss grasp the meaning and the structure of the text and know of the importance of wildlife protection. Difficult points:

Direct Ss to get more detailed information using their reading skills and cooperative learning.

三、学习者特征分析

The students are Senior One students and most of them come from the countryside. They have some knowledge about wildlife protection in Chinese but cannot express themselves in correct English. However, they have a strong desire for knowledge. More importantly, they have some basic learning strategies and reading skills, which enable them to acquire correct information by working in groups. Before this lesson, I will ask them to preview the words and expressions of this unit. Teaching methods: Task-based Teaching Method and Cooperative Learning Approach 四、教学过程

Step I Warming up (10 min) Purpose: To get the students to know the importance of wildlife protection, and develop their interest in studying this unit. Show the students some pictures and talk about them. 1.What do you think of the animals? 2.Where can we often see the animals? 3. Can we see all the animals in the zoo? Why? Step II Reading (23 min) Purpose: To lead the students understand the reading passage well through some tasks. i. Skimming (Purpose: Get Ss to grasp the main idea of the text) (3 min) Q1: Who is the main character of the text? Daisy Q2: How did she travel? By a flying carpet. Q3: Which places did she travel to and what animals did she visit? Tibet antelope Zimbabwe an elephant rainforest a monkey ii. Scanning (Purpose: Get Ss to get more information of the text)

T: Boys and girls, your second task is to scan the text for the following information and put the sentences in a right order. (5 min) 1. Daisy found her being watched by an elephant. 3 2.
