教材认识：本单元介绍的是现代农业科学家袁隆平及其成就，作为第一单元great women延续是非常合理的。

从教材内容的安排上可以看出课文除了语言知识层面的教育意义，还有弘扬伟人利他精神，彰显其性格，作为，成就，及其影响，让学生们通过了解伟大人物，开始思考并且形成自己的人生目标和人生观。榜样的作用是无穷的，所以教材的安排起到的教育意义是非常大的。让学生了解农业在整个人类生活中的重要性，了解农村生活，了解中国农民的生活现状，提高他们对农业的认识。帮助他们更深刻地理解农业科学家袁隆平的科学研究的价值。同时让学生了解farming以及它对人们生活的重要性3.让学生们深入了解袁隆平作为一个伟大的科学家，他年轻时树立的远大的目标，平日对生活的态度，还有他的梦想到目前的成就，以及这些成就对国家对世界的巨大贡献。引导学生们深入思考自己的人生，设立自己的人生目标：自己可以为国家，为这个世界做些什么？扩大学生的关于农业方面的词汇量，通过语篇阅读提高学生大阅读理解能力,理解长难句,学习v-ing 形式的用法
