Teaching Aims: 1. Help the students consolidate the useful words and expressions learnt in the Reading: distant, decrease, powerful, affect, appreciate, hunt, protect…from, respond, relief. 2. Help the students analyze the reasons of animals’

extinction and design their posters about wildlife protection.

Ability Aims: 1. Enable students to use the useful words and expressions well. 2. Enable students to talk about the endangered animals and the reasons why they are endangered or extinct. 3. Get students learn to design a poster about wildlife protection.

Emotional Aims: 1. Arouse students' awareness of protecting wildlife and know it’s our responsibility to protect wildlife. 2. Develop students' sense of group cooperation and teamwork, and then encourage them to care for animals and protect them.

Teaching Important Points 1.The useful words and expressions in this period. 2. Enable the students to appreciate the importance of protecting wildlife.

Teaching Difficult Point: 1. Enable the students to learn to use words and expressions well. 2. Have students make a discussion about wildlife protection.

Teaching Procedures: Step 1 Revision. 1. Greetings. 2. Review the main idea of the passage.

Step 2

Discovering useful words and expressions. 1. Exercise One.

Find the word or expression for each of the meanings from the text.

Suggested answers: distant, decrease, powerful, affect, appreciate, hunt, protect…from,

respond,

relief.

2. Exercise Two.

Go through the meaning of the words and expression. The students are expected to complete the exercises independently, if they have problems, they can discuss with their partner. Check the answers. Suggested answers: wild, reserve, hunt, species, powerful, appreciated, relief, protecting, from.

Step 3 Leading –in. Show some pictures and videos about animals to the students, then ask them why some wild animals disappeared or died out. Encourage them to discuss the reasons and what we might do to protect them.

Share my story about jellyfish with them.

Step 4 Discussion. Ask the students to choose an endangered animal which they know about and make a brief introduction about this animal, and then design a poster about wildlife protection.

Step 5 Show time.

Ask two students in each group to give presentations to the others and share their posters.

Step 6 Summary. Sum up what we have learned today and encourage the students to the people around us to take actions to help protect wildlife. Share with the students: The world is a big family. Animals are our friends and everyone can do something to protect them. It’s high time for us to protect them. Only 2

when we know the reasons why they are in danger, can we know the importance of protecting me. “When the buying stops, the killing can too.”

Homework: 1. Polish their posters. 2. Write a letter about wildlife protection to WWF to ask more people to join us. 3
