Teaching plan Using language: reading and speaking Teaching aims: Introduce students to English jokes and enable them to know the two kinds of jokes. Students give the similar examples in Chinese and try to make up similar jokes. Grasp the new words appearing in the tasks. Important points: To find the amusing part in each example joke. Difficult points: To find similar ones and make up similar jokes by themselves. Teaching method: Guidance, giving examples, correcting. Learning method: Reading, practicing, group work. Teaching procedure 1.Lead-in 1)Tell students a short English joke: Our family have two pets named Water and Soap. Mom usually clean the dishes shiny. After every meal, she puts the dishes on the floor and shouts: “Here Soap, here Water!”

Students try to find out similar ones in Chinese. (Pay attention to the rhythm and intonation.) 3.Short funny stories 1)Read and get the punchline of the joke. 2)Q: Do you think it funny? 3)Words: detective, mountainous, whisper, vast 4) Group work: change the story into a dialogue (division of labor). Act it in groups of three – Holmes, Watson and a narrator. Practice for 5 minutes. Show their presentation in class. (Teacher emphasize the rhythm and intonation of the dialogue.) 4. 5.Homework Make up English jokes by yourself and make sentences with the new words.
