Analysis of teaching material:

Reading plays an important role in learning English. So, how to do the reading becomes a big problem for students. And, to some types of reading, searching out the topic sentence is a good way to master the passage fast and finish some kind of reading questions like “ what is the main idea of the paragraph”. This lesson mainly helps students to know something of the topic sentence and where the topic sentence mainly is. And how to get the general idea of the paragraph.

Analysis of students:

The students are from Class 4 Senior 1 in Guangzhou No. 97 Middle School. As one of the top classes in the grade, the students are interested in English and their English level is good enough to handle the normal reading materials, but topic sentence they may not very familiar with. And some of the students may have difficulties in understanding the main idea of each paragraph, and even the whole passage. This lesson gives them more challenging and practical tasks, which enable them to make use of a wide range of knowledge and skills to read.

Teaching Aims: Emotional aims:

After learning the lesson, students will be able to have a better understanding of The Topic Sentence. Knowledge aims:

After learning the lesson, students will be able to: 1) master the basic skill of searching out the topic sentence.

2) have a better idea of how to understand each paragraph and even the whole passage. Ability aims:

After learning the lesson,

all students are able to figure out what the Topic Sentence is. 2)

How to get the general idea of each paragraph in a passage. 3)

all students are able to have a positive attitude when they face with reading some paragraphs and even passages. Teaching focus and difficulty:
