Step Ⅰ

Retell the play –home alone and show some related words and phrases on the screen.

Mom and Dad arrived back from vacation a day earlier than expected. They couldn’t wait to surprise the boys. As they were supposed to

come home the next day, what they saw was in a mess: with garbage all over the place, their dog tired and hungry, and the money for dog food gone. His father couldn’t tolerate

such behavior

in their house, so he shouted at their elder son Daniel as if everything was his fault. Daniel felt annoyed. He shouted and ran into his bedroom instead of defending himself. Daniel had his arms crossed and looked upset. In fact, when their parents were away from home, their dog fell ill and the boys used the money to take him to the clinic. That’s why they had no time to clean the house. Now that

his parents didn’t ask him what happened, instead, they shouted at him, Daniel didn’t think their parents deserved an explanation. Mom felt that they may be too hard on Daniel, and insisted that they should have patience

with him. Anyhow, he is a teenager not an adult. Dad thought Daniel had been too rude

to them, and he felt like punishing him.

Presentation Let the students put what we have learnt into practice. Do exercise 1. 阅读下面材料，在空白处填入适当的内容（1个单词）或括号内单词的正确形式。

Consolidation T: Daniel in the play and the boy in the letter both have problems with their parents when they grow up. In fact, your teenagers are experiencing lots of problems when you grow up, which are called growing pains. Now share us what problems you are facing.

Ask several students to talk about their problems. T: Both being a teenager and being a parent can be very difficult. You parents have expectations for

you, and you are experiencing growing pains. It’s a common problem shared by many, then how can we deal with these problems?

Let the students show their different solutions by giving some hints.

T: Great! You have a heated discussion about growing pains. Different students have different problems. And you also have different solutions. Now try to finish a composition about growing pains.

Summary

T: Today, we reviewed some words and phrases of unit 2 and learnt more about growing pains. As for the problems with parents, it is known to us all that parents’ love is true and selfless, and we

love our parents a lot, as well. But love needs communication and understanding. Communication makes the world much simpler and more harmonious. And a smile, a talk, a walk, a letter or a gift can mean understanding. I hope all of you can communicate more and understand each other better when problems appear and lead a happy life.
