设计理念；

本堂课的教学目标有三个，一是词汇目标，能记住课本中所新出现的单词短语的意思，并能够用英语解释出来，希望能提高他们用多种方式表达同一种意思的能力，锻炼他们的英语思维能力，并通过上下文来理解词汇，扫除新的语言障碍理解课文。第二个目标是阅读理解目标，文章非常长，希望同学们能用跳读、略读、概括主旨大意、查找细节等多种阅读技巧来了解这封信的内容，了解欠发达国家人们的生活状况，孩子们的受教育情况等。第三个目标是情感目标，在学完这一课后，希望同学们对自己的学习环境和生活状况与欠发达国家的人进行一下比较，从而更加珍惜我们现在的生活，树立正确的价值观，激发对生活的热爱，对弱者的同情，能够从自身出发做力所能及的事情来帮助弱者。

实现以上目标的活动设计有individual work（个人任务）, pair work（两人任务）, group work（多人任务），既能体现个人阅读能力锻炼，也能体现与他人合作完成任务的能力锻炼。老师在本堂课中起到知识讲述，引导，帮助，穿针引线，组织课堂的作用，更多的还是以学生为主体，把课堂还给学生，改变老师一言堂的旧的教学模式。本堂课有知识的讲述，有能力的培养，通过多项活动的开展来达到课堂目标。

最后我希望在这样一个人情日益冷漠的社会，我能够灌输给孩子们一些分享的知识，培养他们助人为乐的精神，为让我们共同的社会变得更加美好尽一名教育工作者的微薄之力。

教学目标；

1.知识与技能：(1) Study some new words. (2) Train some reading skills to get more details from reading passage. (3) Learn important words and phrases. 2.过程与方法: Learn the new words and do some reading practice. 重点：Help the students to make use of the useful expressions.

难点：Help the students to make use of the useful expressions. 教学步骤；

Step 1. Word study

It is their 50th wedding anniversary. There will be a great family dinner party which lots of relatives will participate in.(take part in) What do you think I should do? Maybe I should purchase (buy) something to eat and drink? I have to make a catalogue.(a list of things...) She is a tailor who makes clothes for others. That’s to say, she is good at operating a sewing machine. After she retired, she with my grandpa has lived in a remote village that is far from the city. Though their income is limited, they never run into financial problem. Because grandma is skilled in distribution of daily expense. Step 2. Pre-reading Have you ever tried to send a gift or something to the children in the poor areas or countries? (Give some pictures) Predicting & Guessing Title: Photos: What will the page show you? Step 3. Fast reading Glance quickly at the text and answer the following questions. 1.What does the page show you? Where is the list of gifts? 2.In what kind of order are the gifts listed? How much are cheapest and dearest gift? What do the photos show you? Suggested answer:

On the left side of the page below the picture with a man in it.

2. In what kind of order are the gifts listed? How much are cheapest and dearest gift? What do the photos show you? The gifts are listed in order of the prices.

The cheapest is A $5 and the dearest is U $1350. The picture on the left shows a woman working on a sewing machine. The one on the right shows that many children are waiting for help to come to them. Step 4. Comprehending Read the text carefully and do the following exercise.

Careful reading (EX. 2 pp.34) On the Internet page, when you click on each gift, you get a description of that gift. In pairs, write the correct gift (A to U) from the Internet page next to each description below. 1. This gift allows a woman who is a trained tailor to make some income, giving her and her family a better future. (N) A sewing machine 2. This gift gives person the opportunity to acquire basic reading and writing, and life skills. Adults develop the confidence to participate in the social, economic and political lives of their communities. (G) Basic adult education 3. This gift covers the cost of production and distribution of seedlings, as well as training in tree care for the local villagers who are working hard to prevent their land from turning into desert. (A) 20 tree seedlings 4. This gift buys a goat. A goat gives milk and is a valuable income. Goats increase in number quickly and add much to a family’s food and financial security. They are easy and fun for children to care for. (J) A goat for a poor family 5. This gift covers the cost of exercise books and textbooks for community primary schools that operate in poor or remote villages. (F)

(1) need 名词, 意思是“需要、必要”。其复数形式是“必需品”。

There is no need to hurry. 没必要着急。

I feel the need of exercise. 我觉得需要运动。

We are in need of water. 我们需要水。

(2) need用作不可数名词时,还有“贫穷、不幸、逆境、困难”等意思。

Many families are in great need.

许多家庭处于贫困的情况。

A friend in need is a friend indeed.

a) 指“供给;供应”等,其反义词为demand(需求)。

(2) 用作动词时, 指“供给,提供,备办”等,常用于词组supply sb. with sth. 或supply sth. to/for sb.。其同义词为provide, present, give, furnish等。

glance匆匆一看,匆匆一瞥,略略地看一眼,瞥视(与at, over, through等连用)。

5. ox

公牛，它的复数形式是oxen。

名词复数形式的特殊变化：

(1) 单复数同形：sheep, fish, deer, cattle (牲口牛), staff (全体职员), means (方法), crew(全体工作人员) (2) 一般情况下，以o结尾的名词，其复数形式是加s, 但tomato, potato, hero 和

Negro则在它们后面加-es，构成复数。

(3) 以-f, -fe结尾的名词，有两种情况。一种是直接在这些名词后-s，如：roof-roofs (屋顶), chief-chiefs (首领), serf-serfs(农奴), belief-beliefs (信念), proof-proofs (证据)。另一种是把-f,-fe改成-ves，如：knife-knives; wife-wives; life-lives。

(4) 单复数形式变化特殊，如：datum-data(数据，资料), phenomenon-phenomena (现象), child-children, mouse-mice 6. participated vi. (+in)参加，参与
