I. Analysis of the Teaching Materials This is the first lesson in the second semester of Grade three. The pictures about farm animals are vivid. The content goes well with daily life. The sentence patterns are easy which the students have learned in Unit 1 of the first semester. So it’s easy for students to master. The content of this lesson is educative, which is about the love between people and animals. It can activate the students’ enthusiasm.

II. Analysis of the Students

After one semester’s learning, students have learned some basic knowledge about English. They are eager to learn and are interested in English. And students will take an active part in the activities in class. All these are to the advantages of English learning. III. Teaching Aims

1. Knowledge Objects

A) Students will be able to aurally understand, orally use and recognize the following vocabulary: farm, farmer, pig, cow, sheep. B) Students will be able to understand and respond orally to these sentences:

--- It’s a/an ________.

C) Students will be able to sing the song: Old MacDonald Had a Farm. 2. Ability Objects:

A) Students will be able to understand the whole story by tape. B) Students will be able to read and imitate the story vividly. D) Students will be able to act out the dialogue based on the book. 3. Moral Objects.

A) Animals are people’s friends. We should love and protect them. IV. Teaching Important Points

A) Master the new words and phrases.

B) Train students’ reading and imitating ability.

VI. Teaching Approaches In this lesson, my teaching approaches include audio-visual teaching method and communicative teaching method. Besides, a computer, a blackboard, and cards are needed as the teaching aids. VII. Teaching Aids Multi-media, blackboard VIII. Teaching Procedures There are eight steps in my teaching procedures.

Step 1. Leading-in. 1. Greeting T: Good morning, boys and girls. S: Good morning, Miss Li. T: Nice to meet you. I miss you very much. S: We miss you, too, Miss Li. 2. Task-setting Set a new task for students: Notice --- Students who finish today’s task will have one baby animal of Old MacDonald’s farm.

Purpose: In this step, I want to arouse the students’ interest in this topic and create a relaxing atmosphere to lead in today’s lesson.

Step 2. New Concepts. 1. Show the animals. T: Do you want to visit Old MacDonald? Now, let’s go to his farm.

(The PPT shows the pictures of Old MacDonald and farm animals.) T: Look! Old MacDonald is coming! Say hello to him. 2

S: Hello, MacDonald! T: Look, there are many animals on his farm. What are these? 2. Ask and Answer. (1) Play different animals calls and ask students what these are. --- What’s this? (What’s = What is)

--- It’s a farm/pig/cow/sheep. (It’s = It is)

sheep (2) Use a chant to practice the new vocabulary. First, the teacher show the first line “Pig, pig. It’s a pig. Oink! Oink!”

Then, the teacher leads students to continue the other chant:

Cow, ____. It’s a ____. Moo, ____.

Sheep, ____. It’s a ____. ____, ____.

Farm, ____. It’s a ____.Wow, it’s beautiful!

Purpose: Through the sound and pictures, I want to arouse the students’ learning interest, and activate their enthusiasm. Step 3. Listen and read (Student Book: Lesson 1 Part 1).

1. Listen and point. 2. Listen and read(twice). 3. Read by themselves. 4. Read together. 5. Use the sentence patterns “What’s this? It’s a/an…” to practice in pairs.

Purpose: This step aims to develop Ss’ imitating and reading ability. Through this step, the students can improve their tone. The group verses of different forms can activate students’ enthusiasm. Step 4. Play a game --- Wolf is coming. Rules: When you hear the wolf roars, you must shout animals out aloud that are showed on the PPT to help them. 3

Step 5. Sing a song. Old MacDonald Had a Farm. Question: What animals can you hear in the song? Step 6 Emotional Sublimation After several steps before, most of the students may have no difficulty in the passage and difficult points. So I move to emotional sublimation. Lead students to think about the two questions: 1. What animals do you like? Try to say something about them. 2. The connection between people and animals. Finally, I conclude the questions. Purpose: Let the students express their love for animals and know the connection between people and animals. We should love and protect them. Step 7. Conclusion. 1. Lead the students to review what they’ve learned in this lesson and preview next lesson’s animals according to the blackboard and the song. 2. According to today’s performance, hand out the cards of having baby animals. 3. Do some exercise. Purpose: Consolidate the language points and conclude students’ class performance. Step 8. Homework

Talk about one of the animals you’ve learned in this lesson. Introduce it to your parents. And make a video. Purpose: Consolidate the key points and let students apply them flexibly. IX. Teaching Reflection As a whole, this lesson is more successful. The atmosphere on the class is lively and all the students love to join in. But because I speak a little bit faster, the students need more time to react to my instructions. So next class I need to slow down my speed.
