entered Beijing in 1860. A lot of precious things were lost .Our country tried our best to rebuild it, but it is impossible to regain its former beauty. Now our government are trying to rebuild it once again .I hope this time we can succeed in helping it regain the former beauty of

Yuanmingyuan。

T: Today we are going to learn a famous city St Petersburg. It has the similar story to Yuanmingyuan. First let’s do some listening(Listen to the tape recorder.)

The great city here is St. Petersburg in Russia, which is regarded as a great city of hero俄s. Why is it so called? Let’s open the books and read the passage quickly. Five minutes later S1: First, I think the city was under attack for 900 days, but the people of the city never gave in. Second, restoring the city and its cultural relics seemed impossible after it was destroyed ,but the people would not gave up. They tried their best to rebuild it and now the city has been made the same as in the past. (Teacher will show some pictures on the screen)
