Teaching Material:

This unit is about the importance of wildlife protection. The reading passage ‘How Daisy learned to help wildlife’

is about Daisy’s wonderful experience with some wildlife animals . It is made up of 3 parts, that is, why we need wildlife protection, a good example of wildlife protection and what we can get from wildlife protection. This passage is the most important teaching material in this lesson because it extends the main topic ‘wildlife protection’ and contains most of the vocabulary and grammar point. If the students can master it well, it will be help for them to learn the rest of this unit. ●

About Students: The students are in the 1 grade in senior high school. It is very important to help them to form a good habit of

learning.They have a definte English learning motivation and attitude. Although their konwledge ability is different, everyone still need many chances to practice what they have learned, to express their ideas, feelings and experiences, and to develop their skills of using English as the second language. ●

Step 1: Lead-in

Task 1: Group Work Show a movie named I dreamed a dream, let them think about two questions:1.How many animals appear in the video? 2.What do you think about the video? Encourage Ss to discuss with each other and then solve the question together.

Purpose：To catch students’ attention and create a mood of sadness.

Task 2: Class Work

Set up some related questions to make the whole class conclude what on earth mainly cause these wild animals in danger of disappearing. After discussing, Ss should mention the following reasons: Food shortage, pollution, destruction of habitats, and over-hunting. Meanwhile, teacher brings up the conception of “wildlife protection” in time.

Purpose: To help Ss get as much background knowledge about wildlife as possible.

Step 2: Pre-reading Show some pages on the Internet about WWF to students,make them know that World Wildlife Fund is the world’s largest privately financed conservation organization. Encourage Ss to learn more information about how to take actions in helping them from the website .

Purpose: To arouse students’

sympathy for this endangered wildlife and their awareness of wildlife protection.

Step 3: While reading

Task 1:Skimming Glance at the title and the picture of the passage. Try to predict the main idea. Then answer the following question:

In this class, we have learned the great urgency of the wildlife protection. As a student, what should we do to protect the wild animals? List your own opinions and organize your words to write a short passage about your solutions.

Purpose: To cultivate Ss to write down their own opinions and help train their writing abilities.
