Teaching Aims:

I. According to the new standard curriculum and the syllabus (新课程标准和教学大纲), and after studying the teaching material, the teaching aims are as follows: (1). Knowledge aim—Get students to understand the reading passage and master some useful new words and expressions and important sentences.

Teaching Procedures:

Lead-in. (5min) In this part, I design a guessing game. The whole class will be divided into six groups ,and each group will get a card on which there is some information about a great woman .Students are required to discuss and describe the picture in group and send a student to stand before the platform to describe it out. The other groups who guess out who the woman is get 1 point. At the same time, The teacher will show the pictures and descriptions on the screen afterwards to let the whole class have a clear understanding. Task 1.Group work(5mins) Let students discuss in group about the following questions: What do these great women have in common?

What makes them great? Give your reasons. Task 2. (Skimming; 5mins) Let students look at the title and pictures and think about what the passage will be about. Then skim the passage to find out some related information about the woman Jane Goodall. Task 3. (Fast-reading, 5mins)

1) Underline the topic sentence in each paragraph.

Following Jane’s way of studying chimps, our group are all going to visit them in the forest.
