step one: warming up Teacher shows some picture about food to arouse students’ awareness of hunger in the world and brings the topic to how Yuan Longping helps to reduce hunger.

step two: skimming and scanning Skim the passage for two minutes , find out the style

of the passage and then make an information card for the character of this passage

step three: careful reading 1.

Read paragraph 1 carefully searching for certain information and find out the main idea of it, then fill in the blanks in the handout. 2.

Read paragraph 2 carefully searching for time data and find out the main idea of it, then put the given sentences in the right time order.

Read paragraph 3 carefully searching for Yuan’s personality and hobbies. Then do the “true and false”and multiple choices.

4.

Invite student to describe the qualities of Yuan by using given adjectives or his or her own words.

5.

Read paragraph 4 carefully searching for certain information and find out the main idea of it, then fill in the blanks in the handout.

step four : post reading-word guessing Example: He becomes the first agricultural pioneer in the world to grow rice that has high output. Ask students to guess the meaning of ‘PIONEER’in the sentence.

step five: discussion Teacher reviews the main idea of the passage with students, then reminds students hunger exists everywhere in the poor country, and ask students to discuss with their partner to give their opinions on how to reduce hunger as a student, then invite some student s to share their answers. step six : homework Write a short composition about how to reduce hunger according to the discussion result.
