Step 1 Lead-in

1.

Show a photo of teacher and get the student notice the -ing form used as the subject and

object.

2.

Introduce some hobbies by using the -ing forms used as the subject and object, and get the students say some hobbies. (They expresses the general acts, e.g. listening to music、singing、traveling、jogging、chatting on phone、playing ball games、swimming、riding、watching TV、taking photos ...;)

Step 2 Presentation and Practice

The -ing form used as predicative

1.

Ss talk about their ideas on something by using some -ing forms. (They express some abstracts on something, e.g. relaxing、interesting、charming、exciting、entertaining、amusing、convincing、boring、tiring、disappointing、disgusting、astonishing、surprising ...

) 2.

Teacher’s introduction of the topic -ing forms used as predicative by observation the sentence structure (S + Link-verb + P)

3.

Get the students try to identify the -ing form used as the subject and predicative by correcting some sentences.

Guide the students to check the sentences and differ the same word used as the v-ing form in two examples. (e.g.Charlie Chaplin’s movies were entertaining . The Gold Rush was an entertaining movie. ) 5.

Students’ observation of the -ing forms used attribute and say out the functions. (e.g. use, act and state;)

6.

Distinguish the signal and phrase -ing forms by learning some sentence patterns.

The -ing form used as object complement 7.

Compare with the two sentences(e.g. The woman wearing a glasses sits near the window. I saw the woman wearing a glasses.) and figure out the the -ing form used as object complement.

8.

Look and say out some English sensory verbs such as:see、watch、look at、notice、observe、find、hear、listen to、smell、feel etc.

9.

Watch and illustrate the two forms of the “-ing”

form and the infinitive of the verb without “to”.

1. Ss read a short passage and classify the useful structures. (the ing-form used as the object complement,predicative or attribute. )

Require for filling the proper words and expressions by using the -ing forms.
