. Teaching aims 1. To enable the Ss to know Yuan Long ping, especially his scientific spirits. 2. To enable the Ss to grasp some reading methods.

3. To enable the Ss to make comments on a certain person. 4. To help the Ss develop a sense of learning through cooperation and exploration. 5. To motivate the Ss to have dreams and go for their dreams. 6. To inspire the Ss to learn from Dr. Yuan’s scientific spirits.

1. Watching a video

Ask the Ss to watch a video while thinking about the following question: What’s happening to the whole world?

2. Making predictions

Ask the Ss to look at the pictures and the title and predict who the pioneer is and what he has done for all people.

Step2 Reading comprehension

This step is group work and the Ss are divided into four groups. Each group is asked to: First, skim the whole text to get a general idea. Second, focus on one paragraph and read it. While reading, they have to complete two tasks: 1. Read fast to summarize the topic with one or two words.

2. Read carefully to answer the questions about the paragraph. After all the groups have finished, check their answers in class. After checking the answers in Paragraph4, inspire the Ss to have a dream and go for it. Group1: Read Paragraph1 Tasks: 1. Topic: ____________________________ 2. Ask the Ss to read the passage in groups, finding out the sentences that describe Dr Yuan’s scientific spirits.

Step4 Discussion Discuss Dr Yuan’s scientific spirits in class.

Step5 An interview The Ss are organized to have an interview with Yuan Longping, asking him his attitudes towards his life and research. This activity is organized in this way: 1. Divide the Ss into certain groups. 2. Ask each group to choose one to act as Dr Yuan, the rest as reporters. Reporters interview Dr Yuan. 3. Act the interview out in class.

Step6 Conclusion Ask the Ss to conclude what they have learnt in this class according to the learning list or what questions they still have. ● I have
