Ⅰ.Learning Objectives

1. In the class, the students can get to know some basic information about Australia. 2. Most students are able to practice the reading and listening ability.

Let the students enjoy a video, and thus may arouse their interest and keep them in high spirits. 2.

Encourage the students to talk about some animals in Australia. Teacher can show them some vivid pictures. 3.

Encourage the students to discuss the big city in Australia. (Through these activities, the students may have a better understanding about the location and features of Australia, which may be very helpful

for them to understand the text. ) StepⅡ

Fast reading

Students are asked to read the title and subtitles of the text and match each part with a proper description. (By doing this, the students can learn to grasp the key words and then get the main idea and the structure of the whole text.) StepⅢ

Careful reading

Ask the students to read the first part carefully by themselves, noting that they should try to remember as much information as they can. Then the students have to listen to this part again and then try to finish the exercises without referring to the text. 2.

Ask only one student to read part two, and then all the students have to finish the exercise True or False. 3.

Students are asked to discuss with each other about the two different routes mentioned in this part and what they see on the way . 4.

Listen to part four and then students are asked to answer the two questions :why is the rock so amazing? Why do most people choose not to climb the rock? By answering the questions, students can have a better understanding about Ayers Rock. 5.

For the last part, all the students read it together , and then fill

in the blanks. After the five parts, the teacher should summarize the whole text.

Discussion

The students are asked to discuss with their partners: What’s the writing purpose of the passage?

(This activity may reflect what they have learned and help them to form their own thoughts. ) StepⅤ
