Period 2 Teaching aims:

Unit 4 Wildlife protection 1.

Let students learn some wildlife protection in present situation, think of the importance of protecting wild animals, understand the importance of harmony between man and nature at the same time. 2.

Let 5 students read passages about 5 animals, let these students set good examples of accurate pronunciation. Training the rest students how to process information and use the information to draw the most needed. 3.

Cultivate the students’ awareness of protecting wildlife and able to come up with measures. Teaching important points: 1.

Develop students ‘reading and listening ability.

Enable students to brainstorm about the measures to protect animals. Teaching aids: Multimedia, a whiteboard. Teaching procedures: Difficult points: 1.

Let students introduce the difficulty of survival of wildlife and what measures should be taken in English more fluently. 2.

How to let students make an effective group discussion and how to improve efficiency of group discussion.

Teaching method: 1.

Using multimedia to elicit the theme of this class “wildlife protection”, improve the students’ interest in learning English.

Through listening, question, group discussion, from shallow to deep, from classroom to their own reality, make students understand that the living environment of wild animals has become worsening and protection of wild animal is urgently needed. Teaching procedure: Step 1 lead-in 1.

Show a video about animals’ living conditions and let students talk about their feelings after watching it. It will work as a starter of the lesson because it clearly shows the topic of this lesson. Students may feel saddened when they see animals being shot dead. So it may arouse their sympathy and incentive to protect the animals.

2.

Let 5 students read 5 passages about 5 animals that are either endangered or extinct.

5 English-fluent students are chosen to read out loud about 5 animals in front of the rest of the students. So they are pushed to the spot where they have to do their best. These five students (out of 30), one sixth, will have an opportunity to present themselves in public under pressure. 5 animals are also introduced with their current living conditions.

Students will not only get to know dinosaur and the bird Do do, but also be aware of the conditions of many other animals.

Step 2 Listening Practice 1.

Listen to the audio of page 30 and the attached audio and then answer some questions. Practice students listening skills with tape voice.

Students will get to learn something about dinosaur.

Categorizing 

Animals’ living conditions

Summarize the possible words for the animals which have been mentioned. 

The reasons that caused it. Students will be informed about what has caused these terrible situations, which will create a base for them to brainstorm some measures of improving the situation.

Step 4 Group discussion 1.

Students will have a group discussion about what measures they can take to prevent the situation from worsening. 2.

Report Let students talk about their ways to protect the animals. They must give reasons why they think their method is helpful. Step 6 Homework Let the students write a passage about animal protection. (each student has to pick an animal that is living a bad condition and talk about the causes of it and

ways to improve it) Let students dig little deeper into this topic and take initiative to complete something on their own.

Reflection 1.

Students should be able to see the dinosaur and dodo audio questions while the audio is being played.

More powerful and emotional words should have been used so that they may have felt more encouraged to protect the animals.
