2.Enable the students to be determined and wise in their life and study. Teaching Aids: Multimedia Teaching Procedures: Step1. Leading-in Design Purpose: To stimulate Ss’ interest in this story. Enjoy a song and then show the students some pictures. Appreciate some pictures of the women champions to lead the Ss to the topic: women were not allowed to take part in ancient Olympics. Let’s learn the story of Atlanta. What happened to Atlanta? Step2. Skimming Design Purpose: To get a brief understanding of the passage. Listen to the story while reading the passage to find out the characters in it. Step3. Careful-reading Design Purpose: To make the Ss further understand the text. I.Read the text again and try to answer the following questions: (1)Who was Atlanta? (2)What were Atlanta’s rules? (3) What were Hippomenes' attitudes towards the race? (4)Who did Hippomenes ask for help? (5) What did the Greek Goddess of Love advise Hippomenes to do?
