Teaching plan for Argumentative writing-with the contrast of positive & negative views

8th May, 2018 Teaching aims: By the end of the class, Ss. will be able to: 1.

learn the structure of argumentative writing with the contrast of positive & negative views; 2. improve the general ability of writing about contrast;

3. expand their prior knowledge and apply it practically. Teaching important points: How to help as many students as possible to get improved in are as follows: 1.get the students to learn about the structure of the argumentative writing; 2. enable the students to write the argumentative writing using senior patterns. Teaching difficult points: 1.

how to arrange a good composition of contrast; 2.

how to evaluate a composition. Teaching methods: 1.

Pair work and group work & Task-based teaching method

Practice, discussion teaching method Teaching aids:

1. A projector 2. The multimedia 3. The blackboard,etc Teaching procedure: Step1 Greetings & lead-in Play a short video to introduce the topic of argumentative writing the contrast of positive & negative views ; Step 2 Presentation 1.

Define the contrast composition; 2.

Write the structure of the contrast composition; 3.

List five steps of writing; 4.

Show conjunctions and transitional words needed in writing .

Step 3 Practice

Activity 1: Organize a good structure of the contrast composition; Activity 2: List the standards for a good writing; Step 4

Application / Consolidation 1.

Show some pictures familiar to them taken of the Green roads suited along Mountain Tuer to arouse students’ interest in the latter task; 2.

Divide students into three groups based on their response to the question shown and state their opinions to finish the writing task;

3.

Invite 4 students to challenge themselves by writing four paragraphs in order: Para 1, Para 2, Para 3 and Para 4 to make up a full contrast composition; 4.

Volunteer to read their essays aloud to show themselves. Step 5

Evaluation Evaluate students’

writings based on The Writing Evaluation Criteria and make comments on their results. Step 6

Homework 1.

Preview the Task on Page 10 to Page 13 of Module 8. 2.

Try to write an essay with contrast to practice after class.
