I Teaching material analysis This is the part of Reading in Unit4, Book4. The topic of this unit is about body language.The reading part in our textbook is so long and a little bit difficult for students. Therefore, I chose another passage written by a famous expert, the social anthropologist, Edward T. Hall. II Teaching aims

Knowledge Master the expressions of body language. 2.

Skills Can understand how to use body language correctly to people from different countries. 3.

Affect Learn to respect the disables and try to communicate with them. III Teaching focus and difficulty How to use body language correctly to people from different countries.

IV Theoretical basis.

Schema theory: We know that language is closely connected with the culture and society. If the students lack the background knowledge of the culture, they can not understand the content deeply. The teacher will give students some background knowledge, so the students can have a better understanding of the text. V Teaching methods and studying ways . Top-down approach: That is to say, background knowledge is emphasized in this class. In this part, I chose two songs. One is the clap song, and another is the My Thankful Heart. Through these two songs, I want my students to know something vivid about the cody languange.

What’s more, I try creating a real context about the use of body language.

Through these activities, I tell the students about the topic: Body language. Step 2

Let’s learn how our bodies communicate with others.

In this part, I will give a lot of pictures which can give us information of the mood. The clue is from head to toes. In addition, Iwill choose some students to give performances to express the difference of language in different coutries. Step3

Make a conclusion and tranlate them into Chinese. 1 Becoming sensitive to the clues of body language can help us communicate more effectively with others.

2We can understand what others are saying even when they are not talking. We can sense when 1

people are silent and digesting information, or when they are silent and confused. ?We can share feelings too strong or too difficult to be expressed in words. 3 Finally, we can learn to be more sensitive to our own bodies – to see how they express our feelings and to see ourselves as others see us.
